OpenRent Pty Ltd ("OpenRent", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use, and disclose personal information in connection with the OpenRent website, mobile applications, and related services (the "Service"). It is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles ("APPs").
1. What we collect
We collect the following kinds of personal information:
- Contact information. Email address when you join our waitlist or create an account.
- Account information. Information you provide during sign-up or verification (which may include phone number, tenancy verification documents, and limited identity signals used to confirm you are a real, eligible tenant).
- User Content. The reviews, ratings, and other content you post — including any property addresses, dates, and experiences you choose to include.
- Technical information. IP address, device and browser type, operating system, referrer, pages viewed, and timestamps. This is collected automatically through cookies, local storage, and server logs.
- Communications. Messages you send to us, support tickets, and feedback.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.
2. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you submit it to the Service, automatically as you use the Service, and occasionally from third parties (for example, identity or fraud-prevention providers, or analytics providers).
3. How we use it
We use personal information to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- Verify eligibility and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse;
- Moderate User Content, investigate complaints, and enforce our Terms of Use;
- Communicate with you (service updates, beta access, support);
- Generate aggregated, de-identified statistics about rental experiences;
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights.
4. Anonymity of reviews
Reviews are displayed without your name or other publicly visible identifiers. Anonymous to the public is not the same as anonymous to OpenRent. We retain account and technical information linked to each review for moderation, abuse prevention, and legal compliance. We may be compelled to disclose this information by court order, subpoena, or other valid legal process, including in connection with defamation proceedings or law enforcement requests. We will resist disclosure where we reasonably can.
5. When we disclose information
We do not sell personal information. We disclose personal information only:
- To service providers who help us run the Service (hosting, analytics, email delivery, payment processing, identity verification, customer support), bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations;
- To professional advisers (lawyers, accountants, auditors);
- In connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets;
- Where required or authorised by law, including to comply with a court order, subpoena, or lawful request from a government authority;
- Where necessary to investigate or prevent fraud, security issues, or breaches of our Terms; or
- With your consent.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers are located outside Australia (including the United States and the European Union). When personal information is transferred overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, and disclosure, including encryption in transit, access controls, and logging. No system is perfectly secure; you submit information to the Service at your own risk.
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
8. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the Service, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.
9. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may:

- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information, subject to our legal and operational retention requirements;
